A class trip to see the Nutcracker at NYC Ballet when I was 8 years old had a pretty strong influence on me as a little girl. From then on, I've been passionate about dance, drama and anything to do with theatre and film.
I was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico and raised with my twin sister and older brother in Rochester, NY, by my two very hard-working parents. From them I received a strong work ethic, a love of God, and a passion for the performing arts. Although I was interested in other fields, my intuition has always told me that the arts would be the one constant source of joy in my life, as well as the channel thru, which I could most easily connect to God. My parents were both very active in the community and instilled in me a passion for social justice and activism. I also learned from them the importance of helping others in need.
After graduating high school I attended the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU, from which I graduated with a degree in acting. I was really blessed to be able to go to such a great arts school, and in my senior year I got to spend a semester studying in Madrid, Spain.
After graduating from NYU with a BFA in Acting, I worked at various jobs as I tried to support myself while pursuing my artistic career. I've waited tables, babysat, taught classes, and answered phones, to name a few. I guess you could say that I'm "Recession Proof". My sister had moved back home with my parents, so I lived on my own in Harlem for six years in a tiny studio with very special landlords. Living on my own has taught me to be very independent. It keeps me focused on my goals and gives me the creative solitude that is so important for artistic survival. I now live in an even tinier studio on the UES where the construction of the new subway line keeps me up all nite.
One of the best jobs I've had was working as a personal assistant to Lee Daniels, the Academy Award winning producer of "Monsters Ball" and director of "Precious." I still remember the day that I got the call from Lee offering me the job. I was so excited!!
The next eight months would be some of the most difficult, rewarding, hardest, and happiest months of my life. I covered many, many screenplays, ordered many frappucinos, got to be a part of the editing process, met so many famous people, and went to the Sundance Film Festival in Utah!! This experience taught me so much, and I really got to know and understand the business side of the industry.
I am currently applying all that I learned during my time at LDE to the production of my own film project, "Millie and the Lords." I am also back to acting again full time!! I'm in rehearsals now for a play called "Magdalenas Crossing", which is part of the Midtown International Theatre Festival.
My first TV show — " We are New York " — won four New York Emmy Awards and I continue to work in various theatres here in NY. I know that I am on the right track. Please stay posted for more updates on what I'm working on, and don't forget to sign my guestbook!
